Telecommunication companies under the Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) have asked for upward reviews in voice calls, short message services (SMS) and data costs. ALTON said this in a letter addressed to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), citing the rising cost of running a business. According to ALTON, the proposed upward review of the price of calls will increase from N6.4 to N8.95, while the price cap of SMS will increase from N4 to N5.61. The group said this had increased energy costs, increasing their operating expenses by 35 per cent. Folake Abiola, a Chartered Accountant with one of Nigeria’s leading telecommunications company, Global Communications Ltd (GLO), on Saturday, allegedly committed suicide by ingesting an agro-chemical substance called Sniper. She is known to be a kind and quiet person, a thorough-bred professional, who is very good at discharging her duties. She is unmarried, has no child, presently not in a relationship, but participates actively in Church activities. She was believed to have shown little sign of depression lately and was encouraged to seek help by her colleagues until she decided to end her own life yesterday night in her Lekki apartment. Reports gathered by Sunrise News confirmed that her remains have been deposited at an undisclosed mortuary in Lekki, while the Police Authorities have commenced investigation into the cause of death.
