Delta: Frank Omare (DG, Special Duties) Identified Structures Situated On Natural Waterways, Set To Demolish Structures

 the recurring issue of excessive floods experienced annual in Delta State, the Director General On Special Duties, Chief Frank Omare is set to embark on demolition of illegal structures erected on natural waterways inline with the mandate of the State Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Honorable Sheriff Oborevwori to identify structures blocking the natural waterways.

To this end, with his experience as the former commissioner for environment, Frank Omare and his team in the early hours on Saturday, 22nd of July 2023 went round Warri and Uvwie to identify structures built on waterways and right-of-way for removal, he noted that this became imperative due to the prevailing incidents of flooding occasioned by buildings standing on the natural waterways causing obstruction of free flow of water

Omare emphasised that the demolition of all structures constructed on waterways is crucial to restore the natural flow of water and ensure unobstructed channels constructed by the government

According to him' Warri, Uvwie, Agbarho, Sapele, Ughelli, Agbor, Kwale, Oghara, Oleh, Ozoro, Abraka, Udu and other major towns in the state are currently being ravaged by flood. Some of these structures are illegally approved while some does not have approval, when little rain falls everywhere is flooded, houses has been submerged to flood causing pains and suffering to the people and as a responsible government we cannot allow this

Frank Omare threatened to prosecute environmental offenders expressing his displeasure in the attitude of the people. In his words;' through my accessment, I am devastated that people take laws into their hands and do all kind of things against the environment

Some buildings do not have septic tank, people use drainages as refuse dump point, build on unapproved places even under high tension cable, this is not acceptable the government will not compromise the safety of the citizen, there will be a mobile court to try offenders 

During the visitation Omare addressed and sensitized the traders and residents who erected structures on waterways to desist from such act as it not only degrade the environment but also destroys it at the expense of others

While he charged owners of all illegal structures on waterways to remove them, he said demolition will take place in the 25 LGA of the state with fairness and justice without been selective of place or status

Area visited are: Nemejor Street, Off Akpakpa, Auntie Rose Street, KFT, Heaven Estate in Ugboroke Community, Ekpan Wood Market, Uti Street, Effurun and adjourning areas.
