BREAKING: Abuja Okada riders set houses on fire over colleagues’ death 29 May 2022 Over 100 motorcyclists have attacked Same Global Estate in the Lokogoma area of Abuja to avenge the death of two colleagues. The incident happened after a motorist reportedly hit the Okda riders on Sunday and ran into the estate for safety. The PUNCH  gathered that the Okada riders set fire to two buildings in the estate. Residents of the estate told our correspondent that the motorcyclists attacked the estate in their bid to apprehend an unknown motorist. They noted that the motorist was chased by a mammoth crowd of motorcyclists after he overran two motorcyclists. The PUNCH  gathered that security operatives had arrived at the estate to prevent further damage to properties. Why we demolished Kpokpogri’s house – FCTA reveals  May 15,  2022 The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has disowned Prince Joseph Kpokpogri after the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) demolished his multi-million naira mansion in Abuja on Saturday. Kpokpogri claimed that the decision to pull down his mansion worth over N700 million was an act of oppression. He alleged that it was demolished because he refused to sell it to some ”powerful ” but unnamed individuals who had begged him to sell the property to them. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that officials of FHA, alongside its Managing Director, Gbenga Ashafa, visited the site of the doomed building three days ago, in the company of some top management team of FCTA. BREAKING: ASUU extends strike by 12 weeks May 9, 2022 The Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU) has rolled over its ongoing strike for another 12 weeks. A statement by its President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, said this was to give the government enough time to satisfactorily resolve all the outstanding issues. The rolled over strike will take effect from Monday. ASUU said it took this decision after its National Executive Council meeting which started on Sunday night at the Comrade Festus Iyayi National Secretariat, University of Abuja. Authorities of the Nigeria Customs Service have reacted to the viral video of one of its officers assaulting Samson Nwachukwu, an aide to the Delta state governor, along the Benin/Agbor Expressway on Saturday, May 7th, in the presence of his colleague and a military officer.    In the video, the officer can be heard angrily asking who Mr. Samson Nwachukwu is after he had told him he is a Special Assistant to Delta State Governor before slapping him. Arthur Nzeribe dies at 83   May 8, 2022 Maverick politician Senator Arthur Nzeribe is dead. He was 83. Nzeribe, who has been on life support for sometimes, reportedly died on Thursday. The First Republic politician, who represented Imo West at the National Assembly, was the longest serving Senator from the State. He was born on November 2, 1938. 2023: EFCC to investigate sources of funds for nomination forms    May 6, 2022 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has promised to investigate the sources of funds used by politicians to purchase nomination forms ahead of the 2023 general elections. The EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa, stated this when he featured in a Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, on Friday. The All Progressives Congress (APC) had pegged the nomination and expression of interest forms for presidential aspirants at N100 million and N50 million for their governorship counterparts. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the other hand directed its presidential aspirants to pay N40 million for the two forms while the governorship aspirants are required to pay N20 million for the same. Data, call costs to go up as telecoms union proposes 40% tariff hike May 4, 2022. Telecommunication companies under the Association of Licensed Telecom Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) have asked for upward reviews in voice calls, short message services (SMS) and data costs. ALTON said this in a letter addressed to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), citing the rising cost of running a business. According to ALTON, the proposed upward review of the price of calls will increase from N6.4 to N8.95, while the price cap of SMS will increase from N4 to N5.61. The group said this had increased energy costs, increasing their operating expenses by 35 per cent.
